Holiday Reminder: Closed on President's Day

Just a quick reminder that we will NOT be processing or shipping any orders on Monday the 21st because of the President's Day holiday here in the United States.

Any orders placed between now and Monday will be processed on Tuesday the 22nd.

A good way to remember when MJM Magic will be closed is to look at the US Government's holiday schedule. Since we rely heavily on the US Postal Service to ship out all our packages every day, then if they are closed, we aren't able to ship out the majority of our daily orders. Therefore, we usually give everyone here a day off as well.

As always, rain or shine, holiday or not, our website is ALWAYS functional and open for taking your orders. We simply won't be here to process, email, and ship anything until the next business day when we arrive back to work!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Today is Valentine's Day......a day either loved or hated, depending on your romantic situation. I myself am happily married, but I find it increasingly hard to find anything to do on days like this. Normally, we go out to a nice dinner and just enjoy each others company, but I'm not really a flowers & chocolate kind of guy.

So this year, I did something simple and creative.......which to me is more important than just spending money on something.

I ended up making an Origami Heart out of paper, and writing a nice little love letter inside. I then squirted a little cologne into it (like we used to do in elementary school) and folded it back up! It costs nothing, but requires you to actually MAKE something and put a little effort into it.

Steve Dacri passes away - RIP

Steve Dacri, a veteran magician whose "close-up" illusions could make foam balls appear in your clenched fist, died Friday after a long bout with colon cancer.

The Boston native moved to Las Vegas in 2003, after years of commuting from Los Angeles to work at Caesars Magical Empire, a bygone attraction that offered a rare stage for close-up magic on the Strip.

Dacri and his wife, Jan, worked for most of the decade to find a workable vehicle for a niche of magic that gave him 38 years in the trade. His close-up genre took root at Hollywood's Magic Castle nightclub and played best with audiences of 50 or less.

His was a sleight of hand utilizing small objects -- playing cards, handkerchiefs and the signature foam balls he called "Martians" -- rather than the large illusions that are the basis of most Las Vegas magic acts.

"When magic can happen in the audience member's hand ... that's the magic they remember," he noted in February of last year.

Dacri's post-Empire work in Las Vegas included shows at The Orleans, O'Shea's, the Imperial Palace and the Four Seasons at Mandalay Bay, where he offered a dinner show so exclusive it was $300 per ticket.

His last Las Vegas run was at the Las Vegas Hilton last year. The February opening was postponed by the discovery of a tumor and removal of a section of his colon. "I was sitting in the hospital going, 'Boy I'm so glad I have a show to look forward to,' " he recalled.

Ever the trouper, Dacri last summer submitted to a promotional stunt that involved a dunking in the Hilton's swimming pool to retrieve two playing cards.

Dacri also maintained the website and digital magazine VegasInsideTips.com.

What’s new?

Softcover version Less weight, easier to carry around. The text is 13-point size so the spectator can see it even in low lighting. Spacing (leading) of the lines is greater to provide more white space, making it easier for spectator to read.

New list of words

A different list of words than Mother of all Book Tests 1.0. All of which you can describe and/or duplicate. If you own version 1.0, you can now use 1.0 and 2.0, hand them both out.

Venue object revelation

Most of your performances take place in one of the following venues:

Auditorium, banquet hall, country club, home, niteclub, outdoors, restaurant, walk-around. We have compiled a list of 225 common and uncommon objects that can be found in these venues.

When you arrive at the location, you select the object you want to dramatically locate during your show. A spectator “freely” selects a word (the object) from the book and concentrates. Incredibly, you are able to lead them to it in a dramatic fashion!

Reverse book test

In this mindblowing routine – created by Bob Baker – the spectator becomes the mindreader. You open the book to a page, put your finger on a word, and tell the spectator you will attempt to mentally project that word to them. They call out a word. You then show them the word that you are pointing at. They match!

Name game

In this effect, the spectator picks a word. You walk out into the audience, searching around. Stopping at a woman, you then ask the spectator to call out what he is thinking. The word he is thinking of happens to be a person’s name, lets say ‘Mary.’ You ask the person you stopped at what her name is. It’s Mary!

Pseudo-Hellstromism

The spectator focuses on a sentence that describes a series of actions. They hold onto your wrist as you walk into the audience and physically re-enact these thought-of steps!
