Well, Ron Crumley had been a faithful customer of MJM Magic for many years. As you may know, I'm the owner of the store, so I tend to get very attached to those of you who continually come back and place follow up orders. I recognize your names, your requests, your special instructions that you leave on your orders, etc.
Well Ron Crumley was a guy who always left me a nice message when he placed an order. It's always the little things that people do which stand out. He didn't HAVE to leave any messages to us, but he always did.
His last order was just a few weeks ago, on February 9th, 2012. On his order, he left the message:
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your great service! I always come back to MJM.
Ron Crumley
Of course, it made me smile as it always did. After all, we bust our butts each and everyday to make sure we take care of as many people as possible, so when someone leaves us a compliment, it gives us that extra boost of confidence knowing that we're doing something right.
So it saddened me to open up my email today and see the following letter from his wife:
This message is for Jeff... my name is Peggy Crumley and my husband, Ron Crumley, purchased several magic tricks from you in the past. I wanted to let you know that Ron passed away Feb. 10th. I was looking through his emails and noticed he bought from you often. I wanted to make you aware of why you wouldn't be hearing from him, which makes me so very sad.
He loved magic and I wanted to tell you thank you for providing him an excellent service whenever he ordered from you.

I don't know what touched me more -- the fact that Ron, a man whom I've never met, had passed away......or the fact that his wife took the time to actually email me and let me know how much Ron appreciated shopping with me.
So I immediately began to write up this blog post, because if anything, it's the only kind of tribute I could do for a man who had nothing but kind words to say. A man whom I never got the chance to shake his hand, but who I recognized like a friend simply because of his kind words and frequent orders.
Take a moment in your life to really appreciate those who are positive influences in your life. I too am doing the same, and I thank those of you who not only place orders with us at MJM Magic, but also for those who take the time to send us thank you letters, or who leave positive testimonials. It really means a lot to me.
Rest in Peace, Ron. And to your family, I hope you find strength in knowing that Ron made an influence on me and my life, without even realizing it.
