"A pure prediction effect with any card!"

This Could Be the Trick of the Year

Outside the Box by Thomas Badar

Thomas Badar is maybe the most consistent creator working in all of magic right now. Every year he releases exactly one effect, and it always ends up being a MUST HAVE for magicians.

Like all of Thomas's effects, Outside the Box betrays the inner machinations of a one-of-a-kind mind. From the construction of the trick, the materials included, even down to the name. There is no part of this trick that isn't brilliant. We think you'll understand why.

If you haven't seen this incredible trick yet, stop reading and watch the trailer.

With Outside the Box in your hand, you calmly have a spectator name a card. This is an actual free choice, and every card is fair game for this effect.  Let's say they chose the Jack of Diamonds. Then, you show the spectator your prediction -- or rather you point it out to them.

Printed directly on the card box, right next to the barcode, it says "your card will be in the 25th position". The spectator counts down 25 cards only to find the Jack of Diamonds waiting for them.

This is done with a normal, 52-card deck. There are no duplicate cards, the deck will be shuffled, and it resets instantly.

Outside the Box is another fine example of Badar's unique brand of thinking, and is another world-class, magician-fooling routine that will absolutely baffle lay spectators.

Synchronous by Javier Natera

Can you believe it's been almost 4 years since Javier Natera's Fool Us performance debuted? His routine, playing with the theme of coincidence, was equal parts controlled and manic. We watched in awe as he threaded that impossible balance with one thought on our minds: I can't wait to perform that.

Today, Javier's routine is finally available in the form of Synchronous.

You cut the deck, handing about half to your spectator. Both of you put your packets under the table and select a card, turn it face up, and slide it into the middle.

The spectator then spreads their cards on the table. The 9 of Clubs is face up. You spread your packet to reveal that you have selected the matching card, the 9 of Spades.

You then instruct your spectator to bring their packet under the table again and select a new card, while you square your cards and leave them on the table.

Once again, your spectator spreads the cards, revealing the 4 of hearts face up.

Now, without having ever touched your cards, you spread them again to reveal suddenly the 4 of diamonds is face up!

Whether you want to portray this as a genuine miracle or an impressive feat of persuasion is up to you, but either way, you'll have

I did pretty well on my college courses…except for Greek Mythology.

It was always my Achille’s elbow.
